ABOUT Bill Toomey
Toomey oversees the expansion of personalized learning throughout the country, recently securing new charters in Columbus, Ohio and Flint, Michigan. With more than 20 years of working with the at-risk population, his career includes the opening of dozens of schools in Chicago, Memphis and Shreveport to support the most underserved populations. Toomey is skilled in growing schools enrollment and academic achievements, along with developing and maintaining charter school policies and procedures.
He started his career as a fifth grade teacher on the south side of Chicago and has been working with the at-risk youth population for more than 23 years, focusing on independent and blended learning. Formerly, Toomey was area manager with Sylvan Learning Systems in the Chicago Public Schools and the Compton Unified School District managing Sylvan’s contract in 26 schools.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and teaching from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree in education administration and supervision from California State, Dominguez Hills.
